Two Very Different Kinds of Houses

Bellaire has been rebuilding itself for years. On many blocks, a 1950s or 1960s one-story ranch sits next to a new two- or three-story home on the same size lot. Duct systems in those two houses have almost nothing in common.

The ranch homes usually have a single system with ducts in the attic, sometimes decades old. Cleaning there is about clearing out years of settled dust and checking that the flex runs haven't collapsed. The newer homes often have two or more systems, long runs to upper floors, and more vents than people expect. Laundry Upstairs, Vent Through the Roof

In many newer Bellaire homes, the laundry room is on the second floor and the dryer vents out through the roof. Those runs are longer and harder to check, and lint tends to collect at elbows and at the roof cap. Signs of a problem include clothes that need a second cycle, a hot dryer cabinet, or a burning smell.
